CAP (College Application Prep), is a new startup that helps kids and parents navigate the college application process in an easy, approachable way. They needed branding, custom logo design, direct mail, and a responsive website which was easy to navigate.

CAP exists to help middle and high school students with the coaching and empowerment they need to get accepted to their dream school in the face of tough competition. As the college application process can be long, difficult, and confusing, it is this program’s purpose to make it as easy as possible while giving students and their parents actionable steps.
This was the first project that entrepreneur Angelia Hill approached me about, and we have since worked on many brilliant start-ups she has been involved with. This particular one was both unique and a challenge.
As a mother of a senior high school student herself, Angelia has witnessed firsthand how difficult and time consuming applying for college can be, and wanted to assist other young students with navigating that process.
She realized her new company needed a strong brand identity that was professional and relatable for both students and adults.
What was particularly challenging about her needs was that the new logo had to look very collegial yet be attainable. CAP’s branding needed to convey intelligence, tradition, achievement, and success, while not appearing pretentious. The logo itself also had to contain a college cap, somewhere.
Angelia was very happy with the results, and ultimately decided on the simple mortar board symbol encased with wreaths, which she got excellent feedback on.
I chose a stable blue and taupe, which are universally liked and are popular university colors. The classic Trajan Pro paired with modern Avenir rounded out the typography.
CAP also needed a 12-page brochure that would inform prospectives about their services, as well as a basic, responsive website to do the same.
